Last Thursday, Vice President of Student Affairs Ben Corpus and Baruch President Mitchel Wallerstein sat down in the second-floor VC atrium to discuss LGBT issues at Baruch together with The Ticker's Editor-in-Chief Jhaneel Lockhart as moderator.

"Institutions of higher learning have always been at the forefront of social change," said Wallerstein.

"The current initiative spearheaded by City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, CUNY Chancellor Goldstein and NYU President Sexton to develop safer and inclusive environments for the LGBT population is indicative of the direction that our institution is headed in supporting this initiative," wrote Interim Director of Student Life Shadia Sachedina in an email. "This conversation has been a long time coming."

"The event was planned by members of the Dare to Engage Committee which consists of Baruch students, staff and faculty," said Sachedina. "Additionally, both the Ticker as well as WBMB radio were instrumental in planning this event and helping to make it possible."

Sachedina said, "There are more programs planned between now and the fall semester as we strive to continue to build awareness on these issues for the Baruch College community."
