There's a new reason for seniors to celebrate at Baruch, even though graduation is still a semester away. Local bars have recently struck a deal with USG that will allow Baruch students to get different drink deals Thursday nights.

USG's Vice President Vladimir Lackovic is the one mainly responsible for coordinating this program, with help from USG's President Ben Guttmann.

In a brief online interview with Ben Guttmann, he spoke about what prompted the decision to start this program and how it all came about. "Vlad and I were checking out a couple of bars last semester for a potential event," said Guttmann, "and in the process we had the idea for this program." As for whether or not this will be an ongoing program, Guttmann said that the responsibility for making this decision lies with "future generations of Baruch leaders."

However, USG thinks that this program could go a long way. This may be due to the funding arrangements; "We're actually not paying anything for this program which is great," said Guttmann.

This program is not only designed with legal drinking in mind, but it is also a great way to meet new people and reconnect with old friends during their last semester at Baruch. Guttmann said, " for many of us here, this is our last semester, and we want to make sure that we end college with a bang." Not only do seniors get a chance to make new friends, but they also get an affordable way to have fun.

When asked about what measures they are taking to prevent underage drinking, Guttmann states that although they are promoting the program, they do not have any laws in place to deal with this. "It's up to the bars... Each establishment has their own procedures for following all local laws," responds Guttmann.

Postcards available at the USG suite have more information about available discounts. This Thursday, the Mad Hatter on 26th and 3rd will offer "$4 Select Drafts, Well Drinks, and Wine." The following Thursday's discounts will be at Van Diemens on 27th and 3rd, which will offer "$3 select Drafts, $4 Mixed Drinks, & $5 Wine."
