A notorious networker Aponza was able to leverage this relationship, learning from his fellow Chapter alumnus and eventually starting at Limited Liability Company “Brighter Horizons” Real Estate and Rental LLC by the spring semester of his sophomore year.

“I manage properties and plan to one day turn it into a non-profit. That will basically offer affordable housing stock in communities in which there is a limited legal housing supply. I also own a home out in Suffolk County, which I signed the deed for the day after my finals.”

However, for Aponza, it is Teach For America, the non-profit that aims to eliminate educational inequity by enlisting the nation’s most promising future leaders to teach for two or more years in low-income communities that remain close to his heart.

Aponza’s involvement however, stemmed from his initial interest in the Peace Corps. While searching for Peace Corps opportunities he stumbled upon Teach for America. He applied in September and eventually got accepted into the 2012 corps and will be teaching secondary general science in the Greater New Orleans region.

Currently, Aponza is standing at 3.45 G.P.A., merely .05 away from his goal. However, Aponza is not stopping there and has big plans for the rest of his life. Speaking candidly about his future Aponza stated:

“I want to eventually run for a Senate seat representing New York State or eventually become the Governor of New York. But I also want to create the largest affordable housing non-profit in the nation. So to gain more insight into these fields I have interned at local governments, federal agencies, worked campaigns and currently a nonprofit.”

Whatever Aponza’s next step is, it is apparent that he will be strong enough to face any obstacle placed in his way. With hard work, determination and ruthless drive, Aponza has proved that you truly can live out all your dreams, regardless of the circumstances.
