As summer nears its end, new television series emerge and compete to take the prime spot in our busy schedules this fall. USA Network started early in July with its premier of Covert Affairs, an action-drama series about the CIA.

Starring Piper Parabo (The Prestige) as Annie Walker, a new spy straight from training at "the farm," and Christopher Gorham (Ugly Betty) as Auggie Anderson, a blind but sharp tech-expert and analyst, Covert Affairs is about two CIA officials and the thrilling assignments they're set to solve.

Annie, though inexperienced, has great linguistic skills and instinctual intelligence that the CIA banks on to solve her first case with the Clandestine Services division in the pilot episode, which aired on July 1. Still, she runs into many problems as a rookie out in the field, and is fortunate enough to meet Auggie, who guides her in every which way but sight to help her through the cryptic and complex maze that is the CIA. Action and suspense follow Annie along every step of her investigation until she finally solves the case and ends a great first look at what is sure to be a USA hit.

The intriguing plot is sure to drive the rest of the season.  Prior to Annie's first day on the job, viewers see her on vacation with the man who could be the love of her life.  But he mysteriously disappears before summer's end, leaving just a vague note in his wake. And the events that follow in Annie's new profession, including a reappearance of this mystery man, lead viewers to believe he's involved with just the kind of case Annie is supposed to crack.

Also starring Sendhil Ramamurthy (Heroes) as agent Jai Wilcox, Kari Matchett (Leverage) as head of the department, Peter Gallagher (The O.C.) as director of the division and Anne Dudek (White Chicks) as Annie's sister, Danielle Brooks, Covert Affairs airs on Tuesdays at 10/9 central, only on USA.
