The installation of the escalators has once again been delayed. Due to certain "structural problems," the installation of new escalators will not begin until these problems are addressed. Originally, the escalators were supposed to be renovated, but instead, it was decided that they will be completely replaced. Now the student body will have to wait until roughly mid-October 2011 for the new escalators to be put into place.

In an e-mail interview with Assistant Vice President Jim Lloyd, he said that the installation of the escalators will be halted, "pending an investigation regarding the original structural installation of the existing escalator truss system."

According to Lloyd, the Dormitory Authority wants to make sure that all the building codes are met. In order for the installation to resume, the concrete floor adjacent to the escalators has to be removed and examined. "If a problem is discovered," said Lloyd. "The escalator will be properly fastened to the building structure at that point, at which time, the new escalator installations can resume."

Lloyd said that the concrete will be removed within two weeks, and then assessments will be made according to what they find. If problems are found with the structure, a structural engineer will have to step in and find a solution, which the contractor will then take into account and make the suggested changes.
