Early yesterday evening, an explosion that reverberated throughout midtown claimed the life of one woman and injured at least 30 others. Many fled in a panic, a scene which echoed memories of 9/11, and traffic ran amuck. Baruch College's 42nd commencement was celebrated at the Theater in Madison Square Garden on Wednesday, May 30 with two ceremonies, one in the morning at 11 a.m. and one in the afternoon at 3 p.m. This year's graduating class was of a total of 3,728. That is, 2,625 undergraduates and 1,103 graduate degrees that received degrees from the School of Public Affairs, Weissman School of Arts and Sciences and Zicklin School of Business. (0) comments
As present and former students, writers and editors alike gathered on the 14th floor of the Vertical Campus, the excitement was palpable as those in attendance seemingly reminisced in unison at the place where their passion for the written word began. The occasion was the celebration of the 75th anniversary of The Ticker, and it was an evening filled with serious discussions, journalistic anecdotes, classical music, champagne and an abundance of humor. Can CUNY students make a prolific difference in the world by simultaneously helping save the environment and aspiring artists? The CUNY sustainability workshop, assisted by the non-for-profit organization Material for the Arts, wholly believes so. The citywide initiative, whose workshop took place on Friday, April 27, broached the following questions: Why is sustainability important to CUNY? What kind of an impact can we make by working together? Amid the Material for the Arts warehouse, which has stored over 6 million reusable items, the feeling was that CUNY students can spur significant change. (1) comment
Faina Savich, junior, recently participated in the Fox TV show "So You Think You Can Dance" and was among its top 20 contestants. She was voted off the show on Thursday, June 21. The Federal Reserve Bank of New York has invited Baruch College to participate in its Fed Challenge, a competition that calls for students to analyze economic trends and present their research and recommendations.
