Citi Bike will hit the streets in late July with 600 stations and 10,000 bikes

“I think we’ll sell more bikes,” said Jason. “I think what’s going to happen is, people will get into cycling and they’ll want a bike. Even if they don’t come to Affinity, I think it’s great.”

Representatives for Alta Bike Share were unavailable to comment for The Ticker prior to publication of this article. In preparation for the launch, however, there will be several demonstrations of bike station procedures throughout the city where community members can voice any questions or concerns they have about the share.

The next demonstration will be held Tuesday June 19 on the sidewalk outside Battery Park in the Financial District between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., with another scheduled for June 23 at Adventures NYC in Central Park. The Central Park demonstration will be in partnership with the NYC Department of Transportation helmet-fitting program.

Though helmets will not be required to ride, there will be safety messages on all the bikes urging riders to use them.
